Ademar Manarini
Valinhos, Brazil, 1920 – Campinas, Brazil, 1989
Ademar Manarini was born in 1920 in Valinhos and lived there until 1933, when he moved to São Paulo. A self-taught photographer, he joined Foto Cine Clube Bandeirante in 1950, where he worked on four phases: portrait, social photograph (when he photographed São Paulo and the outskirts of the city, experimental photograms) and, finally, geometric compositions. During this last period, he was invited to participate in exhibition named Ruptura de Arte Concreta, together with painters and sculptors led by Waldemar Cordeiro. In 1954, he had his first solo exhibition at the São Paulo Modern Art Museum. He also participated in several national and international exhibitions.
In addition to his rich activity in photography, Manarini was also an industrialist in the fishing industry and an orchidist. At the end of his life, he developed a photographic work aimed to document fishing and orchids. He died in Campinas in 1989, and in the same year, he was named an Honorary Member of Foto Cine Clube Bandeirante.
His photographs are included in the collections of Itaú Cultural, Tate Modern of London, Masp – Museu de Arte de São Paulo, and MoMA – The Museum of Modern Art.
