Eduardo Salvatore

São Paulo, Brazil, 1914-2006

 


Eduardo Salvatore was born in São Paulo in 1914. He graduated in Law from USP. From 1937, he dedicated himself to artistic photography as an amateur and self-taught artist. In 1939 he became one of the founders of Foto Cine Clube Bandeirante, an entity he chaired from 1943 to 1990. In 1950, he organized the Confederação Brasileira de Fotografia e Cinema – CBFC (Brazilian Confederation of Photography and Cinema). He presided over the confederation from 1950 to 1989. He participated in several individual and collective exhibitions in Brazil and abroad, wining international recognition. He was the chairman of FCCB for 37 years and he died at the age of 93 in São Paulo. Marly T. C. Porto’s book entitled Eduardo Salvatore e seu papel como articulador do fotoclubismo paulista was recently published by Grão publishing house.

His photographs have been included in the collections of Itaú Cultural, Tate Modern of London, Masp – Museu de Arte de São Paulo, and MoMA – The Museum of Modern Art.
